One announcement, republished across a network
News distribution starts with an approved press release. It tells a specific story about your company: a launch, milestone, partnership, event, or documented development. The same release is then distributed for publication across the agreed network.
A package with 250 news outlets describes the publication footprint for that announcement. It does not mean 250 journalists have each interviewed your business or written an independent feature. Network sites may carry substantially the same approved text.
Separate articles, written for an approved setting
An editorial placement starts with a topic and a relevant publication. The article is written separately from the release and should serve the publication’s readers. Your expertise, product category, or company can be included where it belongs in that topic.
For example, a launch release might announce a new scheduling tool. An original article for a relevant business publication could explore the practical cost of fragmented scheduling, using an authorised company perspective. Another article needs a different useful angle, not a swapped headline.
Commissioned editorial is not independent earned coverage
A managed placement is commissioned, contributed, or sponsored according to the publisher’s terms. That commercial relationship should be disclosed accurately. The article may look editorial in style while still being paid content.
Earned coverage is a separate decision by an independent journalist or newsroom. A distribution service may make news available, but it does not give a brand control over those editorial decisions. PR Newswire’s guidance distinguishes the limited control brands have over earned coverage from the greater control in paid placements.
Match the deliverable to the reason for buying
If the immediate goal is to announce something factual with a documented publication footprint, news distribution is the clearer starting point. If the business also has enough expertise for useful topic-led stories, a combined package can add editorial articles.
In PressLoom’s packages, Media Foundation includes 250 news outlet publications and no editorial articles. Authority Accelerator adds 5 original articles to 350 news outlets. Market Authority combines 500+ news outlets with 15 original articles. Every package includes one press release, not hundreds of original releases.
Judge the evidence at the right level
A live URL establishes publication at the time it was checked. It does not establish traffic, conversions, permanent availability, or search-engine indexation. A news outlet’s potential audience is not automatically the audience that read your release.
Ask for an itemised report with placement type, domain, title, URL, date, and status. A useful report separates news copies from original articles and makes outstanding scope visible. That is the foundation for comparing what was promised with what was delivered.
